Zero-Dollar Marketing
for Speakers, Trainers and Consultants

with Bill James, CSP

Bill JamesYou’ve heard it said: It’s a numbers game. The more people you tell about your products and services, the more sales you’ll make.

That’s true, but it’s too simplistic. You want more than mere numbers; you want quality leads who are attracted to you and your offerings.

What techniques can you use to keep your pipeline full? Bill James knows; he’s been doing it successfully for more than three decades.

If you would like to spend less time, effort, and money marketing your business, and still have better results, you won’t want to miss what Bill has to share.

Read more about this session at the bottom of this newsletter, then register or pre-order the MP3. Note: Everyone who registers for the teleseminar will get the MP3 recording of the session for free.

Magically Make Money with Mastermind Groups and Mentoring

To dramatically multiply your revenue, you have to leverage your time. How can you make more per hour without pricing yourself out of the market? By charging less to more people for the same time. Plus, if done well, a group offers more value to its members than a one-on-one session. This is the beauty of group coaching, mentoring and mastermind groups.

However, they are not easy to set up, run, and have a high percentage of renewals. There are plenty of ways to spend a lot of time without many registrants. And there are some tips that will help you have more success sooner. These three teleseminar experts will share with you need to do for success and what to avoid.

  • “Use Your Expertise to Create High-Fee Group Mentoring Programs” with David Newman

Speaking to an audience of rudimentary-English speakersRebecca Morgan

In two recent international trips, my colleagues and I were faced with speaking to audiences with only very basic English skills. We each took slightly different approaches that proved effective.

  • Paul N. Larsen was tasked with speaking at an outside event for 15 minutes prior to an evening concert for 1500 villagers in Myanmar. He made some last-minute decisions and amped up his body language, ditched his slides, (which would have shown on a way-too-small screen), and made his talk into a “call-and-response” of 5 key words he wanted the audience to remember which aligned to his overall message of “I Have a Voice.”
  • In Cambodia, I was asked to speak to 50 hotel employees, from executives to laundry room staff. Their English skills ranged from nearly none to very good. Upon assessing this before my presentation started, I asked the HR director to help me distribute the staff with good English skills among those with rudimentary skills. Having no designated translator, I paused every 5 minutes and said, “Please make sure those at your table understand what I just said.” Towards the end, I asked a few of the best English speakers to help me translate key ideas to the whole group. I only got through half the material, but at least everyone understood it.
  • After sitting in on part of my presentation to see what needed to be modified, Tanis Roeder said she adjusted hers. In addition to asking someone to translate every few minutes: “The other thing I did differently was to ‘act’ out my content a bit more so people could really ‘see’ what I was saying with my gestures, facial expressions and body movements — this got a lot of laughs from the audience. :)”

More on PhotofeelerRita Risser Chai

With Photofeeler, in addition to uploading your photo for feedback, I recommend rating other people’s photos, because you quickly see what works and what doesn’t. In addition, if you click on “blog,” you will be taken to their research based on the data they’ve collected.

There are ideas about how to increase your perceived competence, influence and likability. The most striking finding for me is that men’s likability is constant no matter what their age, but women’s likability plummets as we age. By the time we’re in our 50s, forget it. There may be ways to minimize this disadvantage (besides plastic surgery) which I’m now considering. Well worth the time to explore.

Experiential meetings increase: how professional speakers can adapt and win more gigsVickie Sullivan

We’ve heard about experiential meetings and events for years now. But a recent Meetings & Conventions article “The Well-Branded Event: Creating a Customized Experience with Maximum Impact,” gives both big picture and practical advice for planners.

Here’s why we care: Experiential meeting design will be huge in 2017, and prospective speakers who play off this trend will have the inside track. Here are two ways to change your conversation:

  1. Instead of talking about topic and material, talk about what attendees will do with your insights. How do those insights drive the experience? Play on that.
  2. Instead of talking about interactions, talk about how you will take the attendees on a journey. And talk about how that journey plays into their theme. What role will your speech play in the big picture?

This kind of strategic conversation separates the free speakers from the big-fee folks. Master this, and you will show the value behind your fee.
