Miscellaneous Tips

Membership/subscription tipsStephen Tweed

Here are some lessons we have learned from offering memberships and subscriptions for a decade.

  • To be successful, you must have a clearly defined niche where you are a recognized leader.
  • It is much easier to create content than it is to sell memberships.
  • It is much easier to sell memberships than it is to get members to actually watch your videos and take advantage of the content.
  • You need to be continually creating new content.

Our most successful current membership program is our Home Care CEO Mastermind. We have five groups of CEOs who pay us annual dues to be members of a group.

(Editors’ note: In March, Stephen will provide an SNN teleseminar on how he put together and manages his CEO Mastermind groups. Stephen delivered a lot of useful info on how to use direct mail in a digital age in his SNN teleseminar, “Increase Your Income by Using Direct Mail to Sell Your Products and Services.”)

I have a tendency to write emails and then not send them. I now check my email drafts every day before leaving the office to make sure I sent them!

If you’re using WordPress, then I highly recommend hosting with QTH. It is a smaller hosting company but is cheaper and has everything I need (cPanel, Free SSL Certificates, fast servers, off-site backups, etc.). Contact Scott at QTH.

Wordpress 5.0 has been released, and along with it a whole new editor called Gutenberg. This means that older themes and plugins may not work as planned. Details about the potential impact, and the one plugin you’ll likely want to add to your site, can be found here.

Our best advertising to our customer list is a 8.5 x 11" full-color postcard. It has a 90% open rate! You have to LOOK at it to throw it out! If I get a 25% open rate on emails I’m told I’m a star. But 75% don’t open. Postcards in large size are better than anything in an envelope — you don’t need to open it. These folks offer excellent quality and fast.
