Intensive — Uncommon Model for Speaking as Much
as You Want — and Being Paid Handsomely for It

Generate High Income by Hosting Retreats and Bootcamps

Bootcamps/retreats seem to be the perfect model. But how do you fill them so you’re not committed to a multi-day program with only 2 people? What are the best ways to market them? And how do you price your offering? Should there be ongoing sessions afterwards? What are the best days of the week? Location? Logistics?

Our experts will share their best practices for creating high-revenue multi-day off-site programs.

  • “Provide High-Profit Retreats, Bootcamps, or Intensives with Less Effort Than You Think” (webcast) with Norm Hull, CSP
  • “Retreats to Riches: How to Use Small Events to Drive Back-End Income and Impact from Your Speaking (Both Live and Virtual)” (webcast) with Michelle Villalobos, CSP
  • “Filling Boot Camps with Happy Campers” with Darren LaCroix, CSP, AS

Miscellaneous Tips

Creating content is not enoughVickie Sullivan

A lot of us are content-making machines. We publish articles, blog posts, videos, podcasts, and more every week.

A recent Inc. magazine article about trends for 2022 points out, however, that in the current content tsunami, having a solid base of material isn’t enough. You need to amplify your content and make it easy to find.

That means getting the word out. And no, simply posting links to your website on social media doesn’t count. Here are two things you can do to level up your game:

  • Get quotable. Reach out beyond your fan base. Grow your voice and presence, and share your opinions in online groups. Doing so can get broader outlets to notice you — and even get you quoted in articles. Find new outlets and start reaching out.
  • Get found. SEO is a beast, and you can’t ignore it. Make sure your website is optimized for search engines so that your content shows up in search results. The effort doesn’t have to be perfect, but you need to try.

You likely have a strong content foundation. It’s time now to level up and use your content to build prominence.

Have multiple biosBill Conerly

When I’ve booked a presentation, the client asks for a headshot and a bio. The bio I send is selected from a half dozen that I have on file. The local once says, “A local economist with a global reputation.” But that doesn’t work outside my hometown. Another is more generally for my region. And I have a couple for specific industries, highlighting my experience with them. The point of a bio that will go into a conference program is to sell people on attending the session, and the more specific to the audience, the better.

The same is true of introductions, but I prefer them short so there’s less customization — but still some.

Year-end accountant conversation?Rebecca Morgan

Have you scheduled or already had your year-end accountant conversation? If not, schedule it soon so you have time to implement any strategies. Last year, that 1-hour consultation saved me 5 figures on my taxes.

Topic of the Month (TOTM) — Your Input Wanted

Our TOTM is: When you’re going on a multi-day trip and there’s no gym at your hotel or close by, what exercise equipment do you take (not just clothes, like runners, yoga pants, or gym shorts)?

Send your brief, pithy responses *that are different from those previously mentioned* to editor@SpeakerNetNews.com. Please put “Topic of the Month” or “TOTM” in the subject line.

When I want to exercise all I need is my computer or other device & I play Zumba Fitness videos & dance to them. And what’s better nowadays, thanks to the pandemic, there are virtual Zumba classes happening at every hour of the day around the world. And they’re affordable. And no one can see you!

It’s Who Knows You: Deepening and
Leveraging Relationships to Get More Business
with Andy Lopata

Andy LopataSpeakers, trainers and consultants often think they have stronger relationships with clients, prospects and contacts than they have. They are surprised when they learn someone else got an engagement they weren’t even called about. They scratch their heads, wondering, “Why didn’t they call me?”

You don’t want to miss out on even being considered for work with folks who already know and like you. But you have probably already missed some. How can you avoid this in the future by ensuring you’re on the short list to call?

Successful speaking businesses rest on strong relationships with your global speaking colleagues, clients, bureaus, other meeting professionals or our wider network. If you have developed deep relationships, you then have people who will refer you, advocate for you, provide you advice and insights, and support you. But you can’t just sit back and wait for that to happen.

During this session, Andy will explore the nuances of how speakers, trainers and consultants can better build, nurture, and leverage strong professional relationships. He will share the techniques he used to build a global speaking business, work with many multinational companies, secure book deals with major publishing houses, and attract high flyers (sometimes literally!) as his podcast guests.

You will learn:

  • how to identify the gaps in your professional relationships that mean you are missing key opportunities
  • the “Relationship Matrix©” and how it helps speaking businesses to thrive
  • how to be strategic in building relationships without leaving people feeling “networked”
  • the 7 Stages of Professional Relationships
  • what stops us from asking for help
  • how to make it easy for your connections to support you
