SNN Webcast Info Tuesday, January 21 Use New Brain Science to Drastically Increase Your Effectiveness with Even Recalcitrant Audience Members (webcast) with Dr. Marcia Reynolds, MCC
Maybe they are fearful about change. Maybe they are skeptical of you and your message. Whatever the reason, as a speaker you need to know how to break through the barrier to connect with them. Our next program will give you tips to do just that, based on the latest behavioral science research. Read more about this session at the bottom of this newsletter, then register for the live program or pre-order the recording. Miscellaneous Tips Negotiating tip — Rebecca Morgan When closing a deal with a client and they offer you less than you’d like, ask, “Do you have any wiggle room?” When recently negotiating with a repeat client who offered me the same fee as 2 years ago, I said, “That doesn’t account for inflation. Do you have any wiggle room?” She came up with 30% more. You never know what asking nicely will yield.

Topic of the Month (TOTM) — Your Input Wanted Our TOTM is: What are your best year-end activities that have really paid off? Send your brief, pithy responses *that are different from those previously mentioned* to editor@SpeakerNetNews.com. Please put “Topic of the Month” or “TOTM” in the subject line. Get out of the country. Typically it’s a slow time in your practice. Get away. I’m writing this from our favorite small city in Tuscany but over the past 30 years, my wife and I have taken many excursions to Europe, Asia, Africa for two weeks to a month. What are all those butt-in-seats miles good for if not a trip to somewhere you’ll re-prioritize your work, see new perspectives, chill, do new things, in my case learn a new language. We’re especially fond of the Southern Hemisphere this time of year — New Zealand, Australia, South Asia, Africa, and great islands. Go for it. Every year during the semi-quiet week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, I designate as “Rethinking Week.” Each day is spent thinking about a major aspect of my life or business. I carve out at least two hours daily for reflection and insights. My goal is to notice more about my own patterns and priorities. One day is my health and physical experiences. Another is my primary relationships, then revenue generation and money management — you get the idea. if you follow the personal priority wheel: mind, body, spirit, family, friends, career, finances and emotions, you can make some major adjustments through only minor changes. Do your research and preparation before the week begins so that your attention can be on reflection and insights. Then set your goals. SNN Offer
